Global Gathering in DC for"Goodbye Zhao, Good Riddance CCP" FCM MEDIA ALERT For Immediate Release Contact: (DC) Nancy, 301-437-8656 January 25, 2005 (Int'al) Dr. He, 617-217-8952 Global Gathering in DC for"Goodbye Zhao, Good Riddance CCP" Saturday, 1 ~ 4pm, January 29, 2005 National Mall betw 3rd St. & Capitol Reflecting Pool, Washington DC Mr. Ziyang Zhao, former government leader of People's Republic of China, has contributed tremendously in China's economic reform toward free market and political reform toward democracy and the rule of law. However, as the head of China, Mr. Zhao refused to join in the decision to shoot students and Chinese people during the 1989 Student Democratic Movement on Tiananmen Square. As a result, he was deprived of his leadership and was under house-arrest for the past 16 years until his death on the 17th of this month. The gathering is to commemorate Mr. Zhao and to urge the Chinese Government for a just evaluation to him. His death provides a wake up call to all Chinese peoples, particularly Chinese Communist Party (CCP) members, to come to see the brutality and evilness of CCP, and to strive to break out its control or to denounce the membership and work together with the pro democracy forces to establish a free China where there is no fear of persecution but justice for all and respect for universal human rights for all. This commemorating event is composed of hundreds of concerned groups, such as Chinese overseas' communities, democratic and human rights groups, minority groups of China, western watching organizations and the mainstream society, from most major cities in North America, Australia, Europe, and Asia, including Hong Kong and Taiwan. Chinese community leaders, Zhao's previous staff, surviving student leaders from the Tiananmen massacre, minority representatives, and concerned scholars and celebrities, will give short speeches at the Rally. Condolence letters and statements from all over the world will be read. The gathering crowd in DC and the people of participating groups in the world will vow to say goodbye to Ziyang Zhao and good riddance to CCP.
