China Jails Man for Democracy Newsletter -US Group Reuters Sunday September 16 1:02 AM ET China Jails Man for Democracy Newsletter -US Group BEIJING (Reuters) - China has sentenced a lawyer in southern Hunan province to three years in jail for distributing a newsletter from an overseas pro-democracy Web site, a U.S. human rights group said on Sunday. Police arrested Zhu Ruixiang, a lawyer in Shaoyang city, in May for forwarding by e-mail a U.S.- based newsletter to 12 people, the Free China Movement said in a statement. U.S.-based Chinese VIP Reference (http://www.bignews.org/) says it sends out a daily newsletter that millions receive. Zhu was formerly an editor at a Shaoyang radio station and the Shaoyang Broadcasting and Television newspaper, the group said. He also participated in the 1989 pro-democracy movement.
